"I am not an Athenian or a Greek, but a citizen of the world." -Socrates
Personal Artwork
I have no formal art education, learning instead at the knee of a long line of women in my family. They engaged the women's arts, creating with their hands: quilting, weaving, rug making, knitting, crocheting. I learned to create with what I had on hand. When I found myself as an adult, at home with a blended family of five, I carved out time and a place in the basement for creativity. It was my own therapy and way of expanding my world beyond my bustling, demanding household.
I began experimenting with surface design. What could I do to the surface of fabric: paint, dye, discharge, phototransfer, stamp, stencil, embroider? It was all a great adventure. I became interested in other cultures, and when one of my daughters was in an international college program, I began visiting other countries. It was a life-altering experience, that expanded the boundaries of who I call myself. I began entering my art work in shows and exhibits; I was amazed at how far my work traveled. Pieces of mine have been exhibited all over the US, as well as in Japan, the Ukraine, Amsterdam - even Texas.
