"Out beyond all ideas of right and wrong, there is a field.
I will meet you there." - Rumi
My Approach
I am drawn to understanding what it takes to create balance within the pain that accompanies unchosen transitions. Change can bring about expansion, growth, and new opportunity, but it can also trigger deep fear, loss, grieving, stress, and anxiety. I am deeply touched accompanying clients faced with life’s requirement to change. I have developed an approach which specifically addresses the loss and disturbance many feel when faced with illness, job loss, divorce, empty nest, and other life transitions. I offer a therapeutic experience designed to guide someone into the discovery of their own personal, unique path. I employ enjoyable, creative activities that assist in sorting out feelings, grieving losses, coming to acceptance and envisioning a direction for one's self.
Art Therapy is not about the product, and therefore no art ability is necessary. All that is required is a willingness to engage in simple art activities. I use various techniques and materials as the vehicle of self-discovery. These activities include expressive painting, collage, journaling, doll-making, fiber art. All is conducted in an open, exploratory environment promoting a caring, nurturing, safe atmosphere for inner exploration. I teach tools and strategies to use at home for continued healing, self care, and management of stress and fear.
My approach is also helpful for those who suffer problems arising from lost relationships, specific traumas, substance abuse, and eating disorders. I bring a mindfulness approach based on my own personal forty five year meditation practice, building on strengths and positive psychology.
